Viola Professor Margaret Miller was a prolific presenter in 2023

In 2023, the senior instructor of music coached, adjudicated, and performed at multiple conferences, academies, masterclasses, and camps across the Front Range and beyond.

Here are some of Ms. Miller’s recent activities:

  • Jan. 2023: Colorado Music Educators Association Clinic-Conference and Tri M Sessions. Ms. Miller presented three sessions, including a session for the high school music honor society Tri-M, at the annual event in Colorado Springs.
  • March 2023: Quartet coaching and masterclass for Northern Colorado Youth Orchestra, an organization that allows students to create music in person in a safe environment while supporting the efforts of teachers throughout the region.
  • March 2023: Gave a masterclass and performed in a quartet with faculty from Fort Hays University at the Cottonwood Chamber Music Festival in Hays, Kansas. The annual festival celebrates the genius of chamber music by bringing recognized guest artists to Hays to collaborate with FHSU’s faculty and students.
  • June 2023: Lamont Summer Academy, University of Denver. This is the eighth year Ms. Miller has been an applied faculty member and chamber music coach at the two-week summer academy held annually at DU.
  • July 2023: Served in the practicum orchestra for three cohorts at CSU’s Master of Music summer conducting seminar.
  • July 2022: Presentation at the Colorado Chapter of the American String Teachers Association annual summer summit. For 2023, the conference focused pedagogies, practices, and beliefs that will sustain the string teacher community. (astastrings.org)
  • Aug. 2023: Each year, Ms. Miller participates in CSU Music’s All-State instructional video series.
  • Sept. 2023: Performance at the University of South Dakota.
  • Oct. 2023: Reviewed a book for the February/March edition of American Music Teacher, the peer-reviewed journal and official publication of the Music Teachers National Association.
  • Dec. 2023: Adjudicator for the preliminary round of the MTNA’s Chamber Music Performance Competition. The MTNA partners with music-teaching professionals, connecting both seasoned educators and those at the beginning of their careers.
