The Contemporary Artist Music Series at Colorado State University continues this fall with singer/songwriter and fingerstyle acoustic guitarist Justin Roth on Friday, October 24 at 9 p.m. in the Organ Recital Hall at the University Center for the Arts, located at 1400 Remington St.
Tickets are FREE for CSU students (with ID), $1 for youth (under 18), and $12 for the public. Please note that the University Center for the Arts (UCA) ticket office hours have changed. Tickets are available at the ticket office in the UCA lobby 90 minutes prior to any UCA performance and through intermission. Justin Roth is a nationally touring singer/songwriter and fingerstyle acoustic guitarist who combines an artful blend of hooks laid on a bed of brilliantly inventive guitar technique, bridging contemporary and indie/alt folk. He has toured with John Gorka and opened for some of the finest singer/songwriters, including Shawn Colvin, Martin Sexton, Darrell Scott, and David Wilcox.
His guitar playing has earned him shared stages with some of the greatest fingerstyle players of today, such as Tommy Emmanuel, Andy McKee, and Pat Donohue. Roth’s fan-funded fourth solo album, Now You Know, which he recorded, produced, played and sang every single note himself in his home studio, was recently voted as one of the Top 100 Folk Albums of 2011 by Roots Music Report.

Opening the show will be Fort Collins native Shaley Scott, whose original style is the perfect blend of pop music fundamentals and 21st Century trends. A mix of piano and guitar paints a melodic picture that is unique, yet recognizable; Deep–yet completely relatable. It’s piano/soul…or, piano for the soul. Shaley, grew up in the town of Fort Collins, Colorado. She started performing at the age of five and as a trained dancer and self-taught musician, entered the Colorado Academy of the Arts, where she would train every day after school.

This is the first second in the 2014-15 Contemporary Artist Music Series. The series aims to increase the amount of live contemporary music performances in Fort Collins and encourage audience and community support of local musicians. Additionally, the series exposes students to different models of success in the music world, celebrates CSU alumni who have had success in the contemporary music industry, and helps to bridge the gap between classical and contemporary music for audiences.
