Spring 2018 Student Internships

General Information

In the Spring of 2018, the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at the University Center for the Arts will have two (2) available internship positions. The following information applies to both positions:

Department: School of Music, Theatre, and Dance; University Center for the Arts, Marketing Office, Rm. 112
Academic Credit Offered: Yes
Hours Per Week: 4-5 (dependent upon course credit requirements)
Internship Length: 1 Semester, with the opportunity to return based on performance

Graphic Design Intern

Position Summary
The Graphic Design Intern will gain hands-on experience creating and editing professional marketing and publicity pieces for University Center for the Arts (UCA) events. This individual will work with the UCA Publicity & Marketing team to create graphic imagery that will be used on various media, such as the Web, The Green Room online magazine (can be viewed online here), print materials, social media, and additional outlets. This position allows students to expand their professional portfolio while working in a vibrant, creative atmosphere.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
     - Design graphics to accompany marketing and publicity materials.
     - Create programs to be used at Music, Theatre, and Dance performances.
     - Uphold college and university branding and style guidelines.
     - Assist with on-campus marketing efforts and events.
     - Additional communications, marketing, and event-related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications
     - Current CSU student, available Spring 2018
     - Strong experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator)
     - High levels of creativity
     - Great work ethic and commitment to detail
     - Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat)
     - Ability to excel in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and work independently
     - Flexibility to work during regular office hours and evening events as needed
     - Experience with video editing and/or photo journalism preferred, but not required

Publicity & Journalism Intern

Position Summary
The Publicity & Journalism Intern will gain hands-on experience writing and editing professional journalism and marketing pieces for University Center for the Arts (UCA) events. This individual will work with the UCA Publicity & Marketing team to publicize events through various media, such as the Web, a digital magazine, print materials, social media, and additional outlets. This position allows students to expand their professional portfolio while working in a vibrant, creative atmosphere.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
      - Write press releases and special interest stories (performance reviews, student profiles, etc.) for a variety of publications, including SOURCE and The Green Room online magazine (can be viewed online here).
      - Present media pitches to local media outlets, including The Coloradoan, The Collegian, KUNC, and KCSU.
      - Attend performances and rehearsals for live performance reporting and post-event recaps.
      - Write social media feature content, including interviews with faculty and students.
      - Collaborate with fellow interns on story ideas.
      - Proofread and edit peer projects.
      - Assist with on-campus marketing efforts and events.
      - Uphold college and university branding and communications guidelines.
      - Additional communications, marketing, and event-related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications
      - Current CSU student, available Spring 2018
      - Proficiency in Microsoft Windows
      - Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      - Strong work ethic and commitment to detail
      - Copy editing ability
      - Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat)
      - Ability to excel in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and work independently
      - Flexibility to work during regular office hours and evening events as needed
      - Experience with video editing and/or photo journalism preferred, but not required
