Music student receives national scholarship toward Kodály certification

music studentSchool of Music, Theatre, and Dance music student, Laura Alleman, M.M. Music Education Specialization, Kodály Option, has been selected to receive the prestigious Denise Bacon Scholarship Award from the Organization of American Kodály Educators (O.A.K.E.).

According to the O.A.K.E. website, the award provides partial funding for further study at OAKE-endorsed Kodály certification programs in the United States and Hungary. This award will subsidize Alleman’s Kodály Level 3 training at Colorado State University this summer as she completes her National Kodály Teaching Certification.

“Laura teaches in Frisco Independent School District (Texas), and is a fine representative of our program at Colorado State,” said Dr. Bonnie Jacobi, CSU music education professor and director of Colorado Kodály Institute. Alleman graduated in Dec. and currently mentors Elementary Music Methods student, Markus Fagerburg, in his practicum teaching.

OAKE Scholarship Awards are extremely competitive as students apply from across the United States. “It is very exciting to have one of our students be chosen for this national award,” Dr. Jacobi added.
