Dr. Cayla Bellamy elected inaugural president of the Southwest Chapter of the International Double Reed Society

Please join Colorado State University’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance in congratulating Dr. Cayla Bellamy on her election as president of the Southwest Chapter of the International Double Reed Society.

The International Double Reed Society (IDRS) is a worldwide nonprofit organization comprised of professional double reed players, students, amateurs, hobbyists, university/college instructors, music teachers, institutions, instrument manufacturers, double reed product retailers, reed makers, and enthusiasts.

The Society is committed to championing and celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion in the global double reed community through performance and educational opportunities, grants, and ensuring representation that reflects the richness of a multi-faceted membership.

At the end of the last academic year, CSU bassoon professor Dr. Cayla Bellamy was elected the inaugural president of the Southwest Chapter.

IDRS Regional Chapters serve oboists, bassoonists, and educators in the United States by organizing programs and activities, including clinics, workshops, concerts, festivals, and other gatherings of double reed players.

Dr. Cayla Bellamy is a performer, collaborator, and pedagogue dedicated to advancing the music field through redefining standard practices in the bassoon studio and chamber ensemble settings. She currently serves as assistant professor of bassoon at Colorado State University, where she teaches applied bassoon, chamber music, and instrumental and virtual pedagogy, in addition to performing regularly with the Colorado Bach Ensemble and Pro Musica Colorado Chamber Orchestra.

The Southwest Double Reed Society includes double reed students, players, and teachers in California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Colorado. Bellamy was joined by other officers Jessi Vandagriff (Nevada), Dr. Christian Tran (Utah), and Ashlea Sheridan (California).
