Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck

Presented by the Ralph Opera Program
With the University Symphony Orchestra

The classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale comes to life with the Ralph Opera Program’s performance of Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel”. Humperdinck’s sister, Adelheid Wette, wrote the libretto of the Märchenoper or fairy-tale opera Hänsel und Gretel, which is considered a key work of the German genre. The Märchenoper has its roots in Italian opera.

The opera tells the tale of two abandoned siblings who encounter a mysterious gingerbread house in the woods and fall into the hands of the owner, a witch with evil intentions.
