 nd Gretel". Humperdinck’s sister\, Adelheid Wette\, wrote the libretto o
 f the Märchenoper or fairy-tale opera Hänsel und Gretel\, which is consi
 dered a key work of the German genre. The Märchenoper has its roots in It
 alian opera. \n\nThe opera tells the tale of two abandoned siblings who e
 ncounter a mysterious gingerbread house in the woods and fall into the han
 ds of the owner\, a witch with evil intentions.
