Join the New Music Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Cayla Bellamy, for a “community jam” of Terry Riley’s In C. The session is open to anyone from the campus and community.
Participants should bring their own instrument; music will be available on-site. The ensemble will give a brief demonstration and instructional introduction at 5:15 p.m., and the jam will start at 5:30 p.m.
Riley’s piece is minimalist, open-process work that allows each performer to play or sing short motivic gestures as many times as they like before moving on—it’s different every time!
The community jam will be held outside in the Annual Trial Gardens. In case of inclement weather, it will move inside the University Center for the Arts/Griffin Concert Hall. This event is free and open to the public.
“The New Music Ensemble has been exploring this piece in class and are excited to have a public event,” said Bellamy.
