Guest Artist Concert: Joseph Murphy, Saxophone / FREE

Unaccompanied Music for Saxophone 

Joseph Murphy was a saxophone professor at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania from 1987-2022, where he was also director of bands and department chair. He received a Bachelor of Music Education from Bowling Green State University and a master’s and doctorate from Northwestern University. In 1985, he was a Fulbright scholar in Bordeaux, France, where he received a Premier Prix. Since Murphy’s positively reviewed (New York Times) Lincoln Center debut recital, he has performed across the U.S., in 25 countries on six continents, at eleven World Saxophone Congresses, and is a member of Duo Montagnard with guitarist Matthew Slotkin. Murphy has premiered more than 100 new works, is a clinician for the Selmer Corporation and Rico Corporation, and has ten recordings. Murphy’s memberships include the Music Educators National Conference, Music Teachers National Association, North American Saxophone Alliance, National Association of College Wind & Percussion Instructors, Phi Mu Alpha, and Kappa Kappa Psi.
