Biography
Ethan Urtz is a versatile music professional with experience as a performer, educator, and administrator, dedicated to fostering meaningful musical experiences across a wide range of settings. He joined the CSU Music Department in August 2023, where he serves in a multifaceted role as Ensemble Librarian, Ensemble Coordinator, Instrument Curator, and Instructor. In addition to his work at CSU, he maintains a private teaching studio in Fort Collins.
Before joining CSU, Ethan was a private music teacher in Northern Virginia, working with students of all instruments, ages, and experience levels. His teaching philosophy centers on nurturing a love of music for its own sake and cultivating the deep joy that comes from artistic expression. He is proud to have guided multiple students into the prestigious American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras. He has also taught at the University of Rochester, the University of Miami, privately in Ithaca, NY, and at the 402 Arts Collective in Omaha, Nebraska.
A classically trained trumpet player, Ethan spent several years as a professional performer, appearing with the Omaha Symphony, Syracuse Orchestra, REV Theatre Company, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, and New World Symphony, among others. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music, a Master of Music from the University of Miami, and a Bachelor of Music from Ithaca College.
In his spare time, Ethan enjoys playing in local bluegrass jams, watching the Yankees, and spending time with his partner and their two wonderful cats.
