03.11.10 - Dr. Janet Pollack, Colorado State University assistant professor of musicology, signed her first book contract last week, accepting an agreement with the Kendall Hunt Publishing Company. Researching Music (working title) will be a supplemental textbook for upper division undergraduate and graduate students, and will be especially useful for graduate students preparing for their oral exams.
The company seeks innovative approaches to presenting ideas and novel teaching tools. "Their genuine enthusiasm for my ideas convinced me that they were the folks with whom to work," said Pollack.
Invitation to Speak at National Conference
For Pollack, who will be a keynote speaker at the joint Queen Elizabeth I Society/South-Central Renaissance Society national conference in Corpus Christie, TX, on March 18-20, 2010, the good news keeps pouring in. Her abstract titled Johann Baptist Cramer, Historicism, and The London Piano School was accepted by the North American British Music Studies Association (NABMSA) for presentation at the organization's biennial conference July 29 to August 1, 2010 at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. The presentation is new material from Dr. Pollack's most recent 19th-century research project, now being prepared for publication.
According to their website, NABMSA aims to promote the study of British Music from all time periods on the North American Continent; to provide a collegial and supportive forum for discussion through electronic and other means; to provide a clearinghouse of information on the study of such music; and to foster regular meetings to discuss the same.
