If you've got a fever, they've got the Remedy
The Contemporary Artist Music Series at Colorado State University sponsored by Bohemian Foundation begins the spring 2014 semester with the original rock, soul, rhythm, and blues of Fort Collins-based Mama Lenny and the Remedy on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Griffin Concert Hall at the University Center for the Arts, located at 1400 Remington St.
Tickets are FREE for CSU students, $1 for youth (under 18), and $12 for the public.
Through several occasions of happenstance, Mama Lenny and the Remedy was formed in October 2011 in Fort Collins, Colo. Influenced by many types of music including Stax, Motown, and Chess Records, Mama Lenny and the Remedy create original rock, soul, rhythm and blues tunes that are sure to please. Their first double disc, “Punches and Hugs” was released in the spring of 2012.
“We initially started this band because we love soul music and there isn't enough of it being played right now,” said bassist Ben Prytherch. “But after two and a half years of playing together, we have managed to expand musically and really find our own sound – it’s still soul based, but we have been getting more and more adventurous over time.”
Five women and three men make up this rock, rhythm, and blues band – celebrating their love of music by creating original tunes that keep the listener captivated and ready for the next performance. Their creative energy is still going strong and they released their second album, “Time, You’re Doin’ Fine,” in January 2014.
“[This release] was very exciting, and we plan to carry that momentum into our performance at CSU,” said Prytherch. “The room we’re playing in is just amazing; as a soul/rock band we are accustomed to playing in bars and small venues. Griffin Concert Hall has stunning sound, which will be a real treat.”
Another reason the group is excited to hit the CSU stage is that three of the band members are CSU alumni. Drummer Jeffrey Blayney ’11 obtained a computer science degree from CSU, guitarist Ken Monks ’12 received his PhD in mathematics, and bassist Ben Prytherch ’08 holds a degree in Economics.
Mama Lenny has something to offer those who love to dance, those who love to rock out, and those who love to let music wash over them.
This is the fourth performance in the 2013-14 Contemporary Artist Music Series, a series made possible by the generous support of Bohemian Foundation. The series aims to increase the amount of live contemporary music performances in Fort Collins and encourage audience and community support of local musicians. Additionally, the series exposes students to different models of success in the music world, celebrates CSU alumni who have had success in the contemporary music industry, and helps to bridge the gap between classical and contemporary music for audiences.
