Dr. Louard Edward “Lee” Egbert, Jr. of Littleton, Colorado, joined his Heavenly Father on March 2, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of music, laughter, and love.
Dr. Egbert was the director of choral activities at CSU from 1987 to 2004.
Over his nearly 50-year career of teaching and conducting, Lee shared his passion for music with countless students and communities. He taught at Longwood University in Virginia and Colorado State University, inspiring generations of singers with his dedication and artistry. He served as director of the Arvada Center Chorale from 1990-1998, and founded and directed The Alpine Chorale from 1998-2013, enriching the musical landscape of Colorado.
His choirs have toured extensively both at home and abroad. Two of his greatest thrills were conducting in Carnegie Hall and with the Cordoba Symphony Orchestra and Coro Polifonico (Cordoba, Argentina).
Lee was known not only for his musical talents but also for his warm heart, quick wit, and goofy sense of humor. He had a gift for making people laugh and bringing joy to those around him. Whether on the conductor’s podium, enjoying a round of golf, or sharing time with family and friends, he embraced life with enthusiasm and kindness.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail Egbert; his daughter, Rebecca Egbert (Kevin Kozak); and his grandchildren, Clara Jean Kozak and Amy Kozak. He is also survived by his brother, John Egbert (Barb); brothers-in-law, Jerry Ritter (Carol) and Steve Ritter; four nephews and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Egbert; his son, Brent Egbert; and his parents, Clara Jean and Louard Edward Egbert, Sr.
Lee was deeply loved by all who knew him, and his absence will be profoundly felt. His family and friends find comfort in knowing his music and spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Lee’s life will be held on April 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Christ Church Denver, 2950 South University Boulevard, Denver, CO 80210.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association Colorado or Christ Church Denver (“in memory of Lee Egbert”).
