Special guests include Bernard Scully, former horn player for The Canadian Brass

The School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Colorado State University presents the fall University Symphony Orchestra Concert, conducted by Maestro Wes Kenney. The performance is taking place on Thursday, Sept. 20 and Friday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the University Center for the Arts, located at 1400 Remington Street.

CSU faculty artist John McGuire, is joined by Bernhard Scully, horn professor at the University of Illinois and former horn player for the Canadian Brass, CSU music major Ayo Derbyshire, and Christine Pelletier, professor in CSU’s LEAP Institute for a performance of Robert Schumann’s Konzertstück for Four Horns and Orchestra.

A new work for orchestra from resident faculty composition faculty Jim David, written in honor of the UCA 10th anniversary season, is being premiered. The concert concludes with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s passionate Symphony No. 6.

“A most unusual program to open up our season and celebrate our 10th year in the Center. What a great way to start the year,” says Maestro Kenney.

In conjunction with the tenth anniversary of the University Center for the Arts, adult tickets are just $10 for the entire academic year. This concert is also eligible for the Commitment to Campus benefit of two free tickets annually for each CSU faculty and staff member. Tickets are no charge for CSU students, and $3 for youth (under 18).

Additional University Center for the Arts 10th Anniversary events include an open house on Sunday, Sept. 23, from 1-3 p.m. The open house is free and open to the public.
