String Instrument Session during Explore CSU
String Players: Sit in with the CSU Concert Orchestra.
High school string players are invited to "sit in" a rehearsal with CSU's Concert Orchestra. Come find out how you can continue playing your instrument by participating in either the University Symphony Orchestra or Concert Orchestra (our non-auditioned ensemble). Meet college students who are majoring in a wide variety of non-music degree programs and explore the possibility of keeping music in your life as either a music major, music minor, or non-major at CSU.
Violinists and violists who do not want to carry their instruments during the day can deliver them to the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance office from 7-8 a.m. for secure storage. The office (Room 120) is located on the main floor of the University Center for the Arts. There are a limited number of cellos and basses which may be borrowed for use during this session. Students may reserve one by contacting the conductor, Leslie Stewart, by noon on Thursday, Oct. 24.
The orchestra will read through the Paul Lavender string arrangement of "October" by Eric Whitacre as well as the first movement of Vivaldi's "Autumn" from the Four Seasons. Parts for both pieces can be downloaded from this website.
Family members are welcome to observe this session too!
