With faculty artists, Tim Burns, Piano, and Madeline Harvey, Choreography; and Guest Artist Natalie Scarlett, Dramaturge 

The program will explore the journey of motherhood through two very different lenses. The first half will be a performance of Robert Schumann’s song cycle with text by Aldebert von Chamisso; Frauenliebe und Leben, a journey of falling in love, marriage, beginning a family and then experiencing loss. This romantic era journey of a woman’s love and life is told through the voice of a male poet and composer. The second half is a female story told through exclusively the female voice; The award winning, contemporary song cycle, Baby Bookwith poetry by Chloe Yelena Miller and music by Lauren Spavelko. This cycle explores miscarriage, pregnancy, and early parenthood with raw honesty and beautiful simplicity.
