The unique faculty program includes Igor Stravinsky’s Octet for Wind Instruments, the piece that marks the beginning of Stravinsky’s neoclassical phase is conducted by Rebecca Phillips and performed by CSU wind and brass faculty and graduate students. Ron Francois, violin; Copper Ferreira, clarinet; and Eric Hollenbeck, marimba, perform Kevin Puts’ And Legions Will Rise, described by the composer as representing the “power in all of us to transcend during times of tragedy and personal crisis.” Jeff LaQuatra, guitar; Leslie Stewart, violin; Margaret Miller, viola; and Barbara Thiem, cello, perform a very pleasing selection of quartets by Niccolò Paganini and Stephen Goss. “The faculty chamber music concerts have become quite popular with both students and local audiences for providing music combinations not generally heard and introducing little known composers,” describes Barbara Thiem, recital coordinator.
