Classical Convergence Concert Series: ATOS Trio

Building on the foundation of the classical music tradition, but with a contemporary edge, the co-produced Classical Convergence season features world-class performers and ensembles, performing at the University Center for the Arts and the Lincoln Center.

The ATOS Trio’s warm, expressive, unified sound has garnered them the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award – the gold-standard prize for trios in the U.S.

The trio will perform repertoire by Russian composers:

  • Trio élégiaque No. 1 in G minor / Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873 – 1943)
  • Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 32 / Anton Arensky (1861 – 1906)
  • Three Folk Dances, Op.13b / Alexander Veprik (1889 – 1958)
  • Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67 / Dmitri Shostakovich (1906 – 1975)

Pianist Thomas Hoppe, violinist Annette von Hehn and cellist Stefan Heinemeyer have been conquering the world’s major concert series together since 2003. Around the globe, the ATOS Trio is hailed by audiences and met with critical acclaim. From winning the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award, the gold-standard prize for trios in the US, to a prestigious recognition as “New Generation Artists” by the BBC. From prizes in London, Graz and Melbourne to concerts in all the major festivals and venues from Oceania to Carnegie Hall. The ATOS Trio pushes expression and dynamics to the limits, with its incredibly distinctive, warmly expressive and extremely unified trio sound, far beyond the comfortable, familiar, and expected.

The ATOS Trio’s works include enthusiastically received CD recordings of classical and romantic repertoire (Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn), complete premiere recordings of Heinrich von Herzogenberg and Josef Suk, and a most recent celebration of French, Russian and Czech music. Their total dedication to the music, the joy, the almost magically differentiated interpretation, sets new standards.

In conjunction with the concert, a masterclass will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8, 9—11 a.m. in Runyan Rehearsal Hall. The class is FREE and open to public observation.
