Rosary Sonatas of Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber
With Joel Bacon, Harpsichord and Organ
CSU alum, Dr. Frangel López Ceseña (National Symphony Orchestra, Mexico), and faculty artist Dr. Joel Bacon present an evening of baroque sonatas for solo violin and continuo by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber. Selections from Biber’s “Rosary Sonatas” will be introduced with a short lecture by Dr. López Ceseña, who will discuss the symbolism and compositional style of the music.
Violinist Frangel López Ceseña is a soloist, concertmaster, and chamber musician who has won a national solo competition in Mexico (2014) and a concerto competition in the U.S. (2017). Frangel has taken masterclasses with Ryu Goto, Paul Huang, and others. Frangel studied at the Superior School of Music in Mexico (2017) holds an M.M. from CSU (2018) and a D.M.A. from the University of Western Ontario, Canada (2022), where he specialized in the agential analysis of music. He is a violinist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico and teaches at La Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
