With Joel Bacon, Piano, and Jeff LaQuatra, Guitar
The first half of CSU faculty artist John Carlo Pierce’s program features music by Robert Schumann — Liederkreis, Opus 24for voice and piano, written in 1840 during his “Year of Song,” as well as Ghost Variationsfor piano, composed shortly before his final decline. The second half of the program explores the influence of Chinese poetry on two twentieth-century British composers, Benjamin Britten and Granville Bantock. “I particularly enjoy how these composers respond personally and intimately to the text,” says Pierce.
