Which of CSU’s top-notch vocalists will sing their way to the top?
The Singer of the Year annual competition will make its return on Saturday February 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Organ Recital Hall at the University Center for the Arts, located at 1400 Remington St.
Tickets are free and open to the public, and all are welcome to attend.
The Singer of the Year competition features the top singers from the Colorado State University Music Vocal undergraduate degree program selected from a larger preliminary round on the previous Wednesday.
This popular annual competition features CSU’s finest undergraduate vocal students competing for awards and scholarships. The awards include the $5,000 top Singer of the Year Award, Charles and Reta Ralph Undergraduate Scholarship, Most Improved Award, and the James McDonald Memorial Scholarship.
The awards are based on the students’ vocal performance and on progress toward their degree. The jury of judges consists of CSU voice area faculty Tiffany Blake, John Seesholtz, Susan Hochmiller, Steven Aguilo-Arbues, and guest adjudicator, Catherine Kasch from the Lamont School of Music at University of Colorado-Denver. Additionally, the preliminary round features guest judge Michelle Thompson from Metropolitan State University.
“The Singer of the Year is the crowning event for the undergraduates in the voice program at CSU,” said CSU’s Ralph Opera Center benefactor Charles Ralph. “It is our privilege to observe the growth in skill and confidence of these students over the following years, and when they arrive at the Singer of the Year competition we always marvel at how accomplished these very young singers have become.”
The University Center for the Arts at Colorado State University provides an enriched venue in which the study and practice of Art, Dance, Music, and Theatre are nurtured and sustained by building the skills and knowledge needed by future generations of arts professionals to become contributors to the essential vitality of our culture and society.
