SUMMARY:Virtuoso Series Concert\, Shilo Stroman\, Percussion
DESCRIPTION:CSU faculty member Shilo Stroman has assembled a “killer” b
 and for the recital of covers featuring a diverse set of female-led rock\,
  punk\, and funk artists!\n\nShilo Stroman\nShilo Stroman is a musical cha
 meleon determined to fit into any musical situation supported by his wide 
 range of musical talent\, a laid back attitude and a desire to push himsel
 f artistically. His thirst for performing began at the age of 5 when his p
 arents purchased a toy Drumset. Armed with his dads record collection\, an
  empty basement and chopsticks as drumsticks\, the journey began. He conti
 nues on this path with a diverse schedule of performing\, composing and te
 aching.\n\nA versatile performer\, Mr. Stroman’s credits range from play
 ing triangle in symphony orchestras\, electric bass in salsa bands\, drums
  in funk bands and flower pots in chamber groups. Performing Stroman origi
 nals\, Red Hot Chili Pepper covers and the occasional country tune\, Shilo
 's contemporary jazz quartet\, Square Peg\, released their first recording
 \, “Searching" in 2013. In 2006\, he commissioned and performed the worl
 d premiere of “Sticks and Stones” variations for drumset and wind ense
 mble by Jim Bonney. Shilo can also be heard on various Jazz and singer/son
 gwriter recordings.\n\nAs an educator\, Shilo is adjunct instructor of Per
 cussion and Jazz at Colorado State University where he teaches lessons\, f
 reshman percussion ensemble\, drumline\, Jazz Pedagogy and is charge of th
 e Jazz combo program. Mr. Stroman is also very active in the marching arts
  and has worked with the Blue Knights World Percussion Ensemble\, Longmont
  High School and currently with Fossil Ridge High School\, Loveland High S
 chool\, Dakota Ridge High School and The Battalion Drum and Bugle Corp. Sh
 ilo's company\, Invert Percussion\, was formed to support band directors w
 ith show design\, arrangements and the hiring and training of instructiona
 l staff. Invert was very active in the Fall of 2014 working with 8 differe
 nt schools from as far away as Panhandle\, TX.\n\nTom Amend\nTom Amend is 
 a pianist\, composer\, and arranger from Riverton\, Wyoming. As a pianist\
 , Amend performs throughout the Rocky Mountain Region in various settings 
 as both a leader and sideman. Tom has worked extensively with Soul/Blues a
 rtist Taylor Scott appearing at notable blues venues across the country as
  well as appearing on several of Scott’s records. Tom was also selected 
 as a semifinalist for the 2014 American Jazz Pianist Competition.\n\nTom
 ’s compositions draw on elements of Jazz\, Blues\, Soul\, Americana and 
 are often rooted in the spacious landscapes of Wyoming. Tom was commission
 ed to compose a piece for the 2013 Wyoming All State Jazz Band to be perfo
 rmed 2013 Kinser Jazz Festival. Tom’s composition “What Do You Say” 
 was selected to be performed by the Alan Baylock Jazz Orchestra at the 201
 5 JEN Student Composition Showcase. In the near future\, Tom Amend and com
 poser/saxophonist Kenyon Brenner plan to release an album of original musi
 c written for strings\, woodwinds\, and jazz quartet.\n\nTom just complete
 d a masters degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado.
  As a member of UNC’s Jazz Studies program\, Tom performs with nationall
 y recognized\, UNC Lab I and UNC Vanguard Combo.\n\nKate Harris\nKatie Har
 ris is a Fort Collins\, CO native who has been singing and performing for 
 over 18 years. Drawing inspiration from pop\, jazz\, and musical theater\,
  she strives for an approach that's both fresh and classic. She currently 
 performs across Northern Colorado as the lead vocalist of the jazz group E
 ven Still\, faithfully delivering standards alongside distinct arrangement
 s from across the popular music spectrum\, including James Taylor\, Prince
 \, and Beyonce.\n\nRyan Fourt\nRyan Fourt's career began at the University
  of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he privately studied jazz guitar and up
 right bass with Professor James Greeson. He has also had the privilege of 
 studying with local Colorado guitarist Dale Bruning (who taught Bill Friss
 ell) as well as New York guitarist Mark Elf. After establishing himself in
  the music community Ryan began performing with some of the regions best p
 layers including his teacher Jim Greeson\, saxophonist Keefe Jackson (Delm
 ark records)\, as well as a very important musical partnership with his me
 ntor\, pianist Claudia Burson.\n\nIn 2004\, Ryan moved to the fertile musi
 cal environment of Northern Colorado. Since then he has established himsel
 f as one of the top performers on that scene\, sharing the stage with loca
 l and national talents such as Brad Goode\, Peter Sommer\, Dana Landry\, K
 en Walker\, Dave Pope\, Gareth Malone\, Jeff Jenkins\, Devin Hoff\, Alvin 
 Lucier\, Ben Markley\, and Paul McKee. Ryan’s most recent album\, “Big
  Slick” was released on the Dazzle Recordings label in December of 2015 
 and received extensive international radio play upon its release. The albu
 m is a mix of originals and standards and features some fantastic Colorado
  players including Peter Sommer and Ed Breazeale.\n\nCurrently Ryan lives 
 in Loveland Colorado and maintains a busy performance schedule with variou
 s jazz and pop groups along the front-range and mountain west regions – 
 he can be heard most every weekend in Ft. Collins playing at all the local
  jazz spots\, including Ace Gillett’s\, Jay’s Bistro\, and the Crown P
 ub. On top of performing Ryan is also an adjunct instructor of jazz guitar
  and lecturer at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.\n\n&nbsp\;
