DESCRIPTION:The School of Music\, Theatre\, and Dance welcomes world-renown
 ed trombonist Joseph Alessi – principal trombonist of the New York Philh
 armonic Orchestra and faculty member at the Juilliard School – for a mas
 terclass working with CSU trombone students in solo\, orchestral and chamb
 er settings. The masterclass is free and open to public observation\, incl
 uding all age levels\, experience\, and instruments.\n\nJoseph Alessi was 
 appointed principal trombone of the New York Philharmonic in 1985. He bega
 n musical studies in his native California with his father\, Joseph Alessi
 \, Sr. As a high school student in San Rafael\, California\, he was a solo
 ist with the San Francisco Symphony before continuing his musical training
  at Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music. Before joining the Philhar
 monic\, Mr. Alessi was second trombone of The Philadelphia Orchestra for f
 our seasons and principal trombone of L’Orchestre symphonique de Montrea
 l for one season.\n\nMr. Alessi is on the faculty of The Juilliard School\
 ; his students now occupy posts with many major symphony orchestras in the
  U.S. and internationally. As a clinician for the Eastman-Shires Instrumen
 t Co.\, he has also given master classes worldwide and has toured Europe e
 xtensively as a master teacher and recitalist. He has performed as soloist
  with several leading concert bands\, including the U.S. Military Academy 
 Band at West Point\, U.S. Army Band (Pershing's Own)\, and the U.S. Marine
  Band (President's Own). In addition\, he has performed with the Maria Sch
 neider Orchestra\, the Village Vanguard Orchestra\, and has recorded with 
 jazz greats\, J.J. Johnson and Steve Turre. Mr. Alessi plays exclusively o
