SUMMARY:Master Class: "Event Pieces" with Duo 1804
DESCRIPTION:How does a DJ compose? What would a laptopist’s score look li
ke? How would a composer sonically and visually organize the improvisation
al contributions of musicians?\n\nIn Event Pieces\, DBR answered these que
stions by developing a graphic musical notation that allows for the organi
zation of composed and improvised musical fragments\, or “events.” Par
ticipants generate and incorporate ‘events’ into a unified composition
\, making it possible to re-mix and re-imagine different musical styles an
d ideas. DBR demonstrates and leads a group composition. Musical instrumen
ts are encouraged but not required. Recommended for all age groups (music
 or non-music students).\n\nPresented by DUO 1804\nDUO 1804 is a collaborat
ion between composer\, violinist and educator Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR)
and composer\, percussionist and creator of Afro-electronica®\, Val-Inc.
Longtime peers in the Haitian American musical community of New York City
\, this is the much anticipated collaboration between two boundary-breakin
g composers exploring the possibilities of classical and electronic music\
, from a unique perspective drawn from their Haitian roots. 212 years afte
r the proclamation of Haiti’s independence in 1804\, the duo comes toget
her to immerse the audience in a rich tapestry of sound that expresses not
ions of freedom\, revolution\, and spirituality — themes present in toda
y’s global issues — to celebrate our collective human spirit and unity
in the concert hall\, which DBR calls “our last\, precious bastion of d
emocracy”.\n\nDon't miss DUO 1804 on the Classical Convergence Concert S
eries on Sunday\, Sept. 20\, 7:30 p.m.\n\nSponsored by: Colorado State Uni
versity School of Music\, Theatre and Dance and the City of Fort Collins L
