SUMMARY:Workshop: Kodály 101 for the 21st Century Teacher
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an elementary music education workshop with Tanya L
 eJeune and Carrie Nicholas as they explore what it means to be a Kodály-i
 nspired teacher in the 21st century. Take a look at the tenets of the Kod
 ály philosophy\, provide resources for both long-term and short-term plan
 ning\, and experience a variety of songs\, games\, and activities to suppo
 rt a Kodály-inspired classroom.\nAbout the Presenters\nCarrie Nicholas is
  in her 22nd year as an elementary general music specialist and currently 
 teaches K-5 general music in Lakewood\, Colorado. She received her undergr
 aduate degree in Music Education from Illinois Wesleyan University and a M
 aster’s of Music Education with Kodály Emphasis from Colorado State Uni
 versity where she also completed her Kodály certification. Carrie is an a
 ctive presenter and has taught Pedagogy and Folk Song Analysis at the Colo
 rado Kodály Institute. Carrie is past-president of ROCKE and the OAKE Wes
 tern Division. In addition to teaching and presenting\, Carrie co-hosts th
 e podcast “Music Teacher Coffee Talk” with her longtime colleague and 
 friend\, Tanya LeJeune.\n\nTanya LeJeune lives in Denver\, Colorado\, and 
 is in her 26th year of music education. She has taught K-8 general music i
 n Jefferson County Public Schools in Colorado\, and is a Kodály instructo
 r of pedagogy and folksong analysis at the Colorado Kodály Institute at C
 olorado State University. Tanya serves on the Elementary Music Curriculum 
 Advisory Committee and is the music teacher mentor for Jefferson County Pu
 blic Schools. Tanya is past president of ROCKE\, the Colorado Kodály chap
 ter\, and has served as Member at Large for OAKE. She has presented music 
 education workshops and in-services for several school districts\, univers
 ities\, Orff and Kodály chapters throughout the United States and for Que
 ensland\, Australia. Tanya also co-hosts the popular general music educati
 on podcast Music Teacher Coffee Talk along with Carrie Nicholas.
