DESCRIPTION:Guest Artist Jon Gordon\, Saxophone\n\nThe Jazz Ensembles\, und
 er the direction of Wil Swindler and Shilo Stroman\, present guest saxopho
 nist and composer Jon Gordon\, a distinct voice on the alto saxophone. Mr.
  Gordon has worked with Maria Schneider\, Ron McClure\, Clark Terry\, Benn
 y Carter\, Phil Woods\, T.S. Monk\, Tana Reid\, Bill Mays\, The Vanguard o
 rchestra\, Bill Charlap\, Ray Barreto\, Mark Turner\, George Colligan\, Ch
 ico Hamilton\, Jimmy Cobb\, Ben Riley\, Harry Connick jr.\, Bob Mintzer\, 
 Bill Mobley\, and the N.Y. Pops Orchestra\, and more. Jon has also led his
  own groups at European\, Canadian and U.S. jazz festivals and clubs. Rece
 nt N.Y. appearances include stints at the Blue Note\, Birdland\, Iridum\, 
 Smalls\, the Jazz Standard\, Jazz in July at the 92nd Street Y\, the JVC J
 azz Festival\, the Village Vanguard\, Fat Cat\, and the Charlie Parker Fes
 tival. In 1996\, Jon won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone 
 Competition. This concert features Gordon's music and the premiere of a ne
 w work by CSU director of Jazz Bands\, Wil Swindler.
