PERCUNOVA is made up of percussionists Jonathan Ovalle and Neeraj Mehta. Together they have created a band which fuses contemporary art music and global percussion rhythms to make a diverse sound. They are best known for their use of an eclectic repertoire including countless composers like Steve Reich and Wayne Siegel as well as their diverse performance experience ranging from pop, jazz, global, and orchestral.
Jonathan Ovalle brings to the group a great amount of experience from the orchestra, band, and philharmonic world. Currently Ovalle is an assistant professor of percussion at the University of Michigan where he also serves as the co-director of the well-known percussion ensemble.
Neeraj Mehta is both an active performer and educator, presenting classes across the US and in Europe and India. He has worked at the University of North Carolina as an assistant professor and as an instructor of percussion at Casper College.
