SUMMARY:Guest Artist Concert: Anne Slovin\, Soprano / FREE
DESCRIPTION:Becoming America \nWith Rose Wollman\, Viola\, and Hyeji Seo\,
Piano\n\nSoprano Anne Slovin with CSU faculty-artists Rose Wollman\, viola
\, and Hyeji Seo\, piano\, present a chamber music commemorating America
’s 250th anniversary. The United States has seen itself as a place where
anyone can make their dreams come true: ‘a nation of immigrants\,’
‘a melting pot\,’ ‘the land of the free\,’ and home of the ‘Amer
ican dream.’ This program turns the microscope on ourselves\, and looks
at the American experience from the perspective of people for whom this rh
etoric does not necessarily ring true. Featuring music by Francisco Cortes
  Alvarez\, Rene Orth\, Nailah Nombeko\, Cris Derksen\, and Tamuz Nissim\,
the performance is also the release concert for the album Becoming America
 .\n\nAnne Slovin\, soprano\, is a versatile performing artist\, researcher
\, and voice pedagogue who earned her doctorate from Indiana University’
s Jacobs School of Music in 2025. Passionate about crossing genres and exp
loring new vocal repertoires and styles\, in Summer 2026\, she performed E
lisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre’s 1715 cantata Sémélé with Chamb
er Music Athens\, was soprano soloist in Arthur Honegger’s oratorio King
David with Summer Singers of Atlanta\, and workshoped the new opera Rosen
baum and Li\, by Dina Pruzhansky and Hai-Ting Chinn\, at Atlanta Opera. Sl
ovin joined the voice faculty at the University of Georgia in 2025.\n\nSlo
vin has distinguished herself as an interpreter of contemporary opera\, ha
ving originated the title role in Shulamit Ran and Charles Kondek’s Anne
Frank in 2023 and performed the role of Clara in the collegiate premiere
of Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer’s It’s a Wonderful Life in 2017 at the
IU Jacobs School of Music. In 2015\, she created the role of Mica Segal in
The Property\, a klezmer opera with music by Wlad Marhulets and a librett
o by Stephanie Fleischmann\, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Other favorite
roles in opera and operetta include Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow\, Pa
mina in Die Zauberflöte\, and Micäela in La Tragédie de Carmen. She is
an avid recitalist\, having recently performed a recital of Jewish song as
part of UGA’s Faculty Artist Series\, as well as Tom Cipullo’s song c
ycle A Visit With Emily and the pianoforte songs and duets of 18th-century
composer Harriett Abrams. Recent oratorio performances include soprano so
los in Orff’s Carmina Burana\, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem and Hande
l’s Messiah\, and the role of Eve in Haydn’s Creation.
