 scription: How do we help to improve the mindfulness of the music classroo
 m. The Alexander Technique can help to meet this goal in addition to helpi
 ng to promote healthy practice to avoid injury while we develop focused te
 chnique. Dr. Cody Gifford is an experienced K-12 educator who as applied h
 is expert training in the Alexander Technique in schools worldwide.\n\nBio
 graphy\nCody Gifford is an international school music educator and Alexand
 er Technique teacher. Currently residing in State College\, Penn.\, Dr. Gi
 fford is teaching general and instrumental music\, taking time to write an
 d facilitate workshops\, and preparing for the next teaching post abroad t
 o begin in the fall of 2016 in the Dominican Republic. Previous posts incl
 ude Colo.\, China and Israel. He has taught music at all levels including 
 elementary\, middle\, and high school and university courses directing mar
 ching bands\, concert bands\, jazz ensembles\, pep bands\, orchestras\, an
 d mariachi ensemble and other courses including International Baccalaureat
 e music\, general music\, and theater tech.\n\nDr. Gifford holds degrees f
 rom Arkansas Tech University and the University of Colorado at Boulder. Wh
 ile in Colo.\, he founded the University of Colorado Campus Orchestra and 
 served as music director of the Front Range Youth Symphony in Arvada. An a
 dvocate for student empowerment\, through writing and workshops\, Dr. Giff
 ord shares ideas for cultivating students’ self-efficacy and personal re
 sponsibility for learning. A new article on creating space for student-ini
 tiated performance\, co-authored by Dr. Erik Johnson\, recently appeared i
 n the Dec. issue of the Music Educators Journal. Dr. Gifford completed the
  three-year course in Alexander Technique Teacher certification at the Tel
  Aviv School for Teachers of the Alexander Technique. A member of the Amer
 ican Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT)\, Gifford serves on the p
 ublication team for the AmSAT Journal.
