 \, assistant professor of musicology at CSU\, discusses Third Coast's conc
 ert repertoire\, as well as unique aspects about the group itself\, includ
 ing branding\, work environment\, and how their views about classical musi
 c inform their concert aesthetic. The 30-minute lecture will start at 6:3
 0 p.m.\n\nHailed by The New Yorker as “vibrant” and “superb\,” Thi
 rd Coast Percussion explores and expands the extraordinary sonic possibili
 ties of the percussion repertoire\, delivering exciting performances for a
 udiences of all kinds. Formed in 2005\, Third Coast Percussion has develop
 ed an international reputation with concerts and recordings of inspiring e
 nergy and subtle nuance.\n\nThese “hard-grooving” musicians (New York 
 Times) have become known for ground-breaking collaborations across a wide 
 range of disciplines\, including concerts and residency projects with engi
 neers at the University of Notre Dame\, architects at the Frank Lloyd Wrig
 ht School of Architecture\, astronomers at the Adler Planetarium\, and mor
 e. The ensemble has also designed free iPhone and iPad apps that allow aud
 ience members to create their own musical performances and take a deeper l
 ook at the music performed by Third Coast Percussion.\n\nThird Coast Percu
 ssion is the Ensemble-in-Residence at the University of Notre Dame's DeBar
 tolo Performing Arts Center\, a position they assumed in 2013. They have t
 he honor of being the first ensemble at the University of Notre Dame to cr
 eate a permanent and progressive ensemble residency program at the center.
  Third Coast Percussion performs multiple recitals annually as part of the
  DeBartolo Performing Arts Center’s Presenting Series\, engages with the
  local community\, and leads interdisciplinary projects in collaboration w
 ith a wide range of disciplines across campus.\n\nThird Coast’s recent a
 nd upcoming concerts and residencies include the Barbican (London)\, De Do
 elen (Rottredam)\, National Forum of Music (Wroclaw)\, Metropolitan Museum
  of Art (NY)\, Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago)\, Town Hall Seattle\, 
 Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival (CO)\, Eastman Kilbourn Recital Series (
 NY)\, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra Liquid Music Series (MN)\, National Galle
 ry of Art (DC)\, Ensemble Music Society of Indianapolis\, the Mondavi Cent
 er (CA)\, University of Chicago Presents\, and more. Third Coast has intro
 duced percussion to chamber music audiences in Texas\, Virginia\, Pennsylv
 ania\, Wisconsin\, and Illinois\, securing invitations to return to many o
 f these series.\n\nThird Coast’s passion for community outreach includes
  a wide range of residency offerings while on tour\, in addition to long-t
 erm community engagement residencies at home in Chicago. In addition to it
 s national performances\, Third Coast Percussion’s hometown presence inc
 ludes an annual Chicago series\, with four to five concerts in locations a
 round the city. The ensemble has collaborated in performance with a wide r
 ange of artists and performing ensembles including Hubbard Street Dance Ch
 icago\, Eighth Blackbird\, Glenn Kotche\, and video artists Luftwerk.\n\nT
 he members of Third Coast Percussion —Sean Connors\, Robert Dillon\, Pet
 er Martin\, and David Skidmore— hold degrees in music performance from N
 orthwestern University\, the Yale School of Music\, the Eastman School of 
 Music\, the New England Conservatory\, and Rutgers University. Third Coast
  Percussion performs exclusively with Pearl/Adams Musical Instruments\, Zi
 ldjian Cymbals\, Remo Drumheads\, and Vic Firth sticks and mallets.
