Music Convention Brings over 1,200 Double Bassists to Campus

The School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Colorado State University is thrilled to welcome the International Society of Bassists biennial convention to the University Center for the Arts, June 1-6, 2015. The convention draws over 1,200 bassists from around the world, and is a tremendous opportunity to attend concerts and clinics with world renowned players and teachers.

“The ISB convention is the pre-eminent event in the world of classical and jazz bass, and will help solidify CSU as a destination school of music throughout the country and world,” said Forest Greenough, assistant professor of double bass at CSU. “This will be the largest single gathering of professional classical and jazz musicians ever in the history of Fort Collins—it is an event not to be missed!”

An exciting component of the International Society of Bassists convention (ISB) is the Young Bassists Program, open to students 18 and under of all levels, including beginners. This is an amazing opportunity for local and regional students, and is truly a life changing experience.

Another unique opportunity is for non-bassist music educators to attend the convention for FREE; continuing education credit will be available for educators attending the convention.

Previous conventions have been hosted at Eastman School of Music, San Francisco State University, and Penn State University School of Music. “We are most excited that the ISB selected our venue for their 2015 biennial convention,” said Paul Metz, interim director of the School of Music, Theatre and Dance at CSU. “Even though it has been seven years since the School moved into this wonderful space, we are still inspired daily by the opportunities it presents, and we certainly hope it will inspire ISB members to share their knowledge, ideas, and great music with each other and our community,” Metz enthused.

Greenough echoed Metz’ sentiment, “I am very honored that we were chosen to host the prestigious convention,” he said. “This is a great opportunity to continue to showcase our strong music programs, but also our fantastic facilities and support staff, and our beautiful city.”

As the ISB members and guests enjoy the hospitality of Fort Collins, as well as the beautiful Rocky Mountains, we wish them a rewarding convention!

A Message from the Mayor of Fort Collins

On behalf of the City of Fort Collins, I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2015 International Society of Bassists Convention. Fort Collins is very proud of its commitment to a vibrant arts community, and having the ISB choose Fort Collins and Colorado State University to host their convention is a direct reflection of that commitment—collaborations like this are part of what make our city a great place to live, work, play and create.

While in town for the convention, I’d also like to extend you an invitation to experience some of the many great things Fort Collins has to offer in addition to the arts—be certain to visit our historic Old Town (just a short walk from the Lincoln Center) for some lunch or dinner, or perhaps rent a bike from the Fort Collins Bike Library and take a ride on our many bike trails. If you are feeling adventurous, book a raft trip on the wild and scenic Cache la Poudre River. If you are maybe feeling a little less adventurous but want to take in some natural beauty, then experience some of our many hiking trails and open spaces not only in Fort Collins, but near Horsetooth Reservoir and Horsetooth Mountain Park. Or, if you just need a break, visit one of our many breweries.

My hope is that your time here will be rewarding on many levels, and in addition to experiencing the excitement and musical fulfillment of the convention, you will also see why the residents of Fort Collins are so proud to call this city home. Thank you for joining us, and for sharing your music with our community!

Thank you,
Wade Troxell, Mayor
