03.03.10 – The Colorado State University Chamber Choir, directed by James Kim, performed at the Southwest American Choral Directors Association Conference (ACDA) held in Denver February 24-27. The CSU Chamber Choir was one of four Colorado choirs invited to participate in the opening concert for the conference.

The Chamber Choir delivered a spectacular performance of Monteverdi’s Sestina ‘Lagrime d’Amante al Sepolcro dell’ Amata,’ followed by the Sanctus from Martin’s Mass for Double Choir, and the Cum Sancto Spiritu from Hyo-won Woo’s Gloria. The choir closed with a piece that has become a signature work, Abide with Me by Moses Hogan.

CSU assistant professor of music education, Leila Heil attended the performance. “I think that I can speak for all audience members who were affiliated in any way with CSU by stating that we felt excited and proud to have such outstanding representation of our music program in such a visible venue.”

Following the concert, a choral colleague who works with professional level singers stated, “WOW, I don’t’ think I have ever heard the Monteverdi set sung better.”

According to the ACDA website, “founded in 1959, the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a nonprofit music-education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. In addition, ACDA strives through arts advocacy to elevate choral music’s position in American society.”

ACDA holds biennial conferences where “through concert performances by accomplished choirs, educational clinics by leading experts, and exhibits by music-industry representatives, ACDA offers its members a diverse and practical forum in which to develop their skills and professional knowledge.”
