CSU Percussion Ensemble Rocks with Guest Great Russell Burge

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue

The CSU Percussion Ensemble rounds out this semester’s percussion performances with an eclectic concert of classic pieces, fresh work, and a collaboration with guest artist Russell Burge on Sunday, April 26 at 2 p.m. in the Instrumental Rehearsal Hall at the University Center for the Arts, located at 1400 Remington St.

Tickets are $7 for CSU students, $1 for youth (under 18), and $12 for the public. Tickets are available at the University Center for the Arts (UCA) ticket office in the UCA lobby Monday through Friday, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. and 60 minutes prior to performances.

The CSU Percussion Ensemble takes on a variety of pieces all based off of the concert title- Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue. The something old is the classic percussion ensemble repertoire; new work composed within the last three years is the something new; the something borrowed is a classical piece arranged specifically for the percussion ensemble; and a jazz work featuring guest artist Russell Burge on vibraphone represents something blue.

Russell Burge, currently a faculty member of the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, joined the staff in 1992 as a member of Percussion Group Cincinnati. With this group he has performed throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, as well as recorded for multiple music labels. He was also the principal percussionist with the West Virginia Symphony and plays for the Cincinnati Symphony and Opera.

Burge teaches percussion, jazz vibraphone, and directs the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Steel Band. He stays active on the music scene playing the jazz vibraphone with many recent recordings and performances. rustyburge.com
